Museum of Emptiness (2016)
Installation – sculpture, photography, found objects (variable dimensions)
Solo Exhibition at Radical Gallery, Veliko Tarnovo, 2016
The installation explores the transformation of abandoned buildings in Bulgaria, focusing on their shifting function once people leave. It delves into migration's political and emotional implications, highlighting how once-inhabited homes become sealed-off spaces—museums of emptiness—preserving only traces of human presence.
The work creates an immersive environment by combining sculptural artworks in metal and ceramic, archival photography of abandoned houses, and wall drawings resembling the shadows of missing structures. Found objects are repositioned to resemble a traditional museum display, questioning the meaning of home and absence. Through this interplay of materials and imagery, the installation examines the physical decay of deserted homes and the broader socio-political phenomenon of depopulation in Bulgaria.
