About
Denica Milusheva (b. 1992, Bulgaria) is a visual artist and researcher whose practice spans performance, sculpture, and conceptual installation. Her work investigates themes of perception, identity, absence, and transformation, often engaging with the intersection of the human body and its spatial, political, and digital environments. Rooted in both physical materiality and theoretical inquiry, Milusheva explores the evolving role of the artist in contemporary society, focusing on performance as an act of critical engagement.
Milusheva holds a Ph.D. in Fine Arts from Veliko Tarnovo University "St. st. Cyril and Methodius," where her dissertation, The Artist's Body in the Artistic Act, examines the evolution of performance art in Bulgaria over the past two decades. Her academic and artistic practices are deeply intertwined, reflecting a commitment to research-based creation.
Milusheva has exhibited in Bulgaria and internationally, with recent and upcoming shows at Heerz Tooya Gallery, DOZA Gallery, Institute for Contemporary Art - Sofia, the City Art Gallery of Stara Zagora, and Vaska Emanuilova Gallery, a branch of Sofia City Art Gallery. Her works have been presented at the Geumgang Nature Art Biennial, South Korea, and the 23rd Biennial of Humor and Satire in Art, Gabrovo, Bulgaria. Her curatorial projects and academic contributions extend her inquiry into contemporary art’s role within social and philosophical contexts.
Beyond her artistic practice, she has played a vital role in Bulgaria’s cultural landscape as a curator and cultural manager, co-founding Heerz Tooya Gallery and collaborating with TAM – Space for Social and Cultural Events in Veliko Tarnovo. She is an Assistant Professor at Veliko Tarnovo University, continuing her exploration of contemporary artistic discourse through teaching, writing, and exhibition-making.
Her practice invites audiences to reconsider the fragile, shifting nature of identity, embodiment, and perception—whether in physical, digital, or imagined spaces.
